As members of the Hattiesburg zoo, we were invited a member's social. It was catered by Outback (Yummy!). The zoo guides took groups behind the scenes to get us to Sampson the jaguar's exhibit which has been closed since Hurricane Katrina. The exhibit is still up and safe, but the pathway to it was damaged.
The member social included a silent auction featuring photography and art: photography taken of the animals by people, art done by the animals themselves with the help of trainers. It just so happens that we were there video taping the day the tortoise painted. He used his paws/claws/hands to step into a pan of paint, then step onto a canvas. We just had to get that art. This was an auction so it wasn't easy. We had to be tricky and outbid these other people that had their eye on it too. When there was 7 minutes left, both Josh and Lady hovered over the bidding sheet. When there was 1 mintue left, Josh bid. Immediately after that, the lady bid. Well, she didn't see me coming. As the officials begain the 10-9-8-7... countdown, I walked over from across the room and placed a bid after her. Just as 6-5-4-3-2-1. TAG TEAM! So we won the photo of the tortoise and his art. We will frame it and treasure it forever.
Lesson learned, Josh and Christine need to stay away from silent auctions. We play dirty.
